Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd once again used the medium of SkySportsNews to get his message across on Monday night:.
Freddy commented:
"What I said to them will be private - but they got the message.
"We considered sacking Bowyer, it would be unfair not to say it, it was gross misconduct and we could have done it.
"But we thought the fine and the final warning was in keeping. He should go down on his hands and knees in thanks.
On Bowyer's long term future at the club:
"That is up to the manager and the board to decide, that is not for today.
"I was embarrassed for Newcastle United, its supporters and the rest of the players. It was total embarrassment for me.
"Nobody can believe it. It has never been seen before in football and it is unacceptable."
"I have been told by both players it was frustration. Quite simply one did not pass the ball to the other and that's where it all started from. It sounds ridiculous, but that is the truth.
"There was no tension before the game, they got on really well."
"He did not attack anyone, he was attacked, simple as that. He did not provoke the incident, it was down to Bowyer, Lee has admitted this and what would anybody do?
"He could have stood there, run away, or defended himself. Running away was not an option, neither was standing there, so he had to defend himself.
"It is a fast-track situation and we throw ourselves at the panel to decide. In my opinion Dyer has had the rough end of this."
Regarding an accusation that the handshake photocall was a stunt:
"I take exception to that - we do not do stunts at Newcastle and I am not happy with that.
"They had no problems shaking hands and it certainly was not a stunt. They have told me there is no problem."
On the signings of Bowyer and Dyer for Newcastle:
"It was the right thing at the right time for the club and I'll stand by that, but hindsight is a great management tool. Everyone is trying to be clever after the event."
